Former Oakland Raiders quarterback JaMarcus Russell might soon be getting a few calls from bill collectors.

On Thursday the Oakland Raiders confirmed that they are filing a grievance against Russell in order to collect 9.55 million dollars the club claims that Russell owes them. The Raiders claim that Russell was paid accelerated salary for future years of his contract for the years 2010-2012. Russell was 7-18 as a starter for the Raiders and was released shortly after the draft when Oakland acquired former Washington Redskin QB Jason Campbell. As long as the Raiders are in the litigation mood, perhaps they should file suit against Russell for fraud charges, after all Russell was supposed to be a quarterback.

Are the Oakland Raiders poised to make a push for the playoffs in 2010? I think they are going to be right in the mix. Coming off a record of 20-60 over the past 5 seasons, the Raider Nation must get ready to see a vast improvement and a push for a return to the playoffs in 2010.

The Oakland Raiders have had a busy day. First releasing QB JaMarcus Russell and now according to the team website, they have signed another running back.

Last week the Raiders brought in Michael Bennett work a workout and must have liked what they saw because he was signed this afternoon. Bennett is entering his 10th season in the league and will be 32 when the regular season starts but he has been used little in the past few years with 127 carries in the past 4 seasons. The Wisconsin product is 5’9″ 207 pounds and has good straight-line speed and is a good receiver out of the backfield. Bennett has played for Minnesota, Kansas City, Tampa Bay and San Diego. Bennett is the second free agent back signed by the Raiders this off-season, he joins former Washington Redskin Rock Cartwright in a thin backfield.

Via Twitter, ESPN’s Adam Schefter reports that the Oakland Raiders have released QB JaMarcus Russell. Unless miracles can be worked with another team and Russell finds his desire to play professional football, Russell must go down as one of the top 5 draft busts of all time.
