Raider’s Gradkowski is a stand-up guy
The Oakland Raiders have long been known for collecting castoffs and misfits around the league, but in QB Bruce Gradkowski, they acquired a man of high character. I came across an article from April 25th in the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette written by Ron Cook which somehow got very little attention in the media. Many writers and web sites get caught up in the off field escapes of players and their run-ins with the law and sharing all the lurid details of the events, but rarely do the really good stories get out.
Raiders waive, sign and workout
The Oakland Raiders have waived FB Oren O’Neal. O’Neal, 26, has spent the last two seasons dealing with injuries. He missed 12 games last season alone. O’Neal will be replaced by Luke Lawton or massive Marcel Reece. Reece is a load a 6’3″ 240.
The Oakland media is reporting that the Raiders have come to terms with CB Stanford Routt. The one year contract is worth 3.269 million. Entering his 6th NFL season, Routt has 133 career tackles and 4 interceptions.
The Raiders are also reportedly working out RB Michael Bennett. Bennett is 32 but has little mileage on his wheels. He has played for the Vikings, Chiefs, Buccaneers and most recently, divisional opponent San Diego. The Raiders currently only have three backs on their roster. Michael Bush, Darren McFadden and recently signed Rock Cartwright.
Raiders switch Campbell to guard
The player the Oakland Raiders were projected by many to take in the first round, Bruce Campbell is changing positions. Coach Tom Cable has moved him from tackle to guard. Cable said to the press, “Let’s find out how he learns and how he adapts to what we are doing. Again, if I put him at one of those tackle spots he’d go in as a third. This gives him a chance to get in there in the second huddle where he’s going to get a lot of work and we can start his development right away, rather than retard if he’s getting a few reps as a third.”
Campbell said he doesn’t seem to mind the switch. “It’s not that bad at all.” Campbell, out of Maryland, was the fastest offensive lineman at the recent NFL Combine.
Oakland Raiders need T.O.
The Oakland Raiders have made some wise moves in the past few weeks, now make another and sign T.O. The Raiders trade for Jason Campbell on the last day of the draft was a brilliant move for the Raiders.
