Raiders Negotiating With Jared Gaither, Dashon Goldson; Asomugha Out?

The Oakland Raiders are close to an agreement with offensive tackle Jared Gaither, a source close to the situation revealed Wednesday.

The 6’9″, 340 pound Gaither will likely be the left tackle in Oakland. Jared Veldheer could move to right.

Veldheer gained 15 pounds this offseason to handle the bullrushers that right tackles face.

In other news, Oakland and San Francisco are in a bidding war for free safety Dashon Goldson. This all but confirms Michael Huff will not be brought back.

Goldson is a good safety with a nose for the ball. He’s great in run support.

Kamerion Wimbley revealed that his reps and Al Davis are working on a long-term deal that will save Oakland cap room. Wimbley was franchise tagged before the NFL lockout.

More to come later today as Hue Jackson’s press conference begins in 2 hours.

The owners have agreed to  new CBA deal and are now waiting for the NFLPA to approve. An NFLPA conference call will have begun by the time this article is published.

The league released a tentative schedule at nfllabor.com. It ‘s based off the players approving a deal and recertifying within 48 hours.

The Oakland Raiders were the only team to not approve the agreement. They didn’t vote. That’s just how Al Davis rolls, baby.

Teams will be able to negotiate with its own players as soon as July 23rd. League year starts on the 27th.

Let’s do this.

Antonio Cromartie to Oakland Raiders?

Posted by ezra.ruiz
July 20, 2011

Antonio Cromartie “doesn’t believe in hometown discounts”, and is seemingly on his way out of New York. The Jets have first round draft pick Kyle Wilson waiting to become a starter.

In a recent radio interview, Cromartie listed the Oakland Raiders as a team whom he could see himself signing with.

He’s maintained all offseason that he will sign with the team who pays him most cash.

The Raiders are expected to lose starter Nnamdi Asomugha, and third stringer Chris Johnson could be a cap casualty.

Enter Cromartie.

Cro is a perfect fit for Oakland’s scheme, standing at 6’2″, weighing 210 pounds, running a 4.3 40, and having exceptionally long arms.

His coverage skills are out of this world and he’d be a viable option to replace Asomugha.

Questions about his tackling ability will bring the going rate down, and I could definitely see the Raiders signing him to a two-year deal worth $16 million.

Asomugha would command that much cash in just ONE year.

We’ll see, folks.
